Dawn Swenson

December 26, 1965 — August 15, 2016

Dawn Florence Swenson passed away peacefully 14 Aug, 2016 at her home in Overland Park, Kansas.  Dawn is the daughter of Frank and Jan Swenson of Angola, Indiana.  She was born 26 December 1965 in Iowa City, Iowa.

During her early years in Missouri and Scotland, it was obvious that she had an artistic flair.  While attending Angola High School in Angola, Indiana, she was in numerous plays.  After high school graduation in 1984, she continued to develop her artistic talents at the University of St Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art in 1988.  Shortly after, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Three-Dimensional Studies from Bowling Green State University, Ohio in 1992.

Over the years, Dawn shared her numerous artistic talents as a counselor, instructor, volunteer, and assistant professor at places such as Bryn Mawr Camp, Tri-State University, New Mexico State University, Bemidji State University, Johnson County Community College, and Richland Community College.

Dawn is survived by her son Roariker “Rory”; her daughter Antonia; her ex-husband Rob; parents Frank and Jan; and siblings Eric and Donna.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Dawn touched are invited to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Wesley Chapel in Leawood, Kansas at 11 am Friday 19 August 2016 to reminisce, grieve, and support each other.  There will be another memorial service at St Anthony of Padua in Angola, Indiana Friday 26 August 2016 at 11 am.

The family of Dawn wishes to extend their deepest and most sincere thanks to all of Dawn’s other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Multiple Sclerosis Society or Turning Point: The Center for Hope and Healing in Leawood, Kansas, or the University of Saint Francis Art Department.
