Dema Louise McDonald 96, of Overland Park, KS, died peacefully, in her sleep, February 21, 2008 at Villa St. Joseph, in Overland Park.
Dema was born November 9th, 1911 in Memphis, MO., daughter of William Clarence and Minnie Lydia Chew. She was preceeded in death by her husband Dick Andrew McDonald, Jr in 1969. Dema and Dick both grew up in Kansas City, graduated from Southwest High School, and were married in 1936. They proceeded to live in Dallas, TX., Manassas, VA., and Long Island New York, before moving back to Kansas City in 1956. They moved into the house, in Brookside, at 59th & Central, that her father purchased new in 1915. Dema?s hobbies included painting, gardening, sewing and writing letters that could frequently be found on the Op/Ed pages of the Kansas City Star. She was a member of St. Paul?s and All Saint?s Episcopal Churches and a retiree from the main branch of the Kansas City Post Office. She was a strong, independent woman who enjoyed life to it?s fullest. Wherever she lived, she strived to have her yard and flowerbeds the talk of the neighborhood. Her paintings are enjoyed by everyone who knew her. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren tremendously. Her wisdom, friendship, and love will be deeply missed. We are so very proud to be her family.
She is survived by her son Drew McDonald, Olathe, KS; son Mark McDonald and wife Claudia, Oklahoma City, OK.;daughter Mallory (McDonald) Hirner and husband Clay, Spring Hill, KS; granddaughter Abigail (Hirner) Dogruoz and husband Direnc, London, England; grandson Daniel Hirner, Gardner, KS; granddaughter Mary Colleen McDonald, Olathe, KS; great grandchildren Kaya, Shenel, and Zeki Dogruoz, London, England, and daughter-in-law Maryanne McDonald, Prairie Village, KS.

Funeral services will be held at D.W. Newcomer?s and Sons, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 28th with burial immediately following at Elmwood Cemetery, 4900 E. Truman Rd., Kansas City, MO.
