Dena E. Huitt, age 96, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and formerly of Prairie Village, Kansas, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Dena was born on September 16, 1918 in Abilene, Kansas to Miles and Myrtle (Laney) Huitt. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1941 with a degree in agricultural engineering. Dena enlisted in the Army Air Corps serving in the South Pacific as a member of the 41st Fighter Squadron from 1942-45. He worked for Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company in Kansas City as a civil engineer from 1945-1981.
Dena was a member of Countryside Christian Church for over 60 years and served the church in many leadership capacities. He was a life member of Johnson County Post 34 of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and a member of American Legion Post 6 in Cheyenne, WY. Dena was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Dorothy Barbarick and his second wife Helen Sanders. He is survived by his daughter Paula (Ken) Manley of Kalamazoo, MI; stepdaughter Jeri Lynn Bilotta of North Branch, MN and stepson Tom (Marguerite) Sanders of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren Amy Sue Manley, Kalamazoo, MI; Laura (Mike) Brunner, Savage, MN; Vicki (Mike) Klun, Stacy, MN; Paul (Shelly) Bilotta, Arden Hills, MN; Tim (Tammy) Bilotta, Mishawaka, IN; Carrie (Dylan) Hartley, Broomfield, CO; Joel Sanders (Angelika Ilina), Portland, OR and 19 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, June 27th, 2015 at Countryside Christian Church. Memorials may be directed to Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall Avenue, Mission KS or the charity of one’s choice.
