Denise Gail Casey, 52, passed away following a courageous battle against breast cancer on November 23, 2007, with her family at her side.
Denise was born Nov. 6, 1955, in Topeka, Kan. She graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1973 and St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1976. She was married for 19 years to her husband, John. Denise valued her relationship with God, and lived her faith everyday through her interactions with family, friends, and often times, strangers. Denise loved flowers, warm weather and just about any game. A registered nurse and lactation consultant, Denise spent over 30 years, mostly at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, helping mothers and babies. She was an active member of Hillcrest Covenant Church where she participated in the Parish Nurses Program, Stephen Ministry, and various Small Groups and Bible Studies.
Denise is survived by her devoted husband, John Casey and their four children, Kim Haversat, 37, Courtney Osborn, 34, Mindy Vaughn, 30, Kevin Zeller, 27. She also leaves her loving parents, Harold and Helen Jordan of Overland Park, Kan.; her brothers, Doug Jordan, Phoenix, Ariz., and Gary Jordan, Olathe, Kan.; and seven grandchildren. .
A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 8801 Nall, Prairie Village, Kan., Thursday, Nov. 29, at 4 p.m. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation (www.komen.org).
