Memorial Services for Devota Maxine Mayse Spurgeon will be held 12:30 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Mrs. Spurgeon died on December 29, 2011 at her home in DeSoto, KS.
She was born on December 2, 1919 on a farm east of Fair Play, MO in Polk County, the daughter of Ada and C.F. Mayse. She was converted at an early age. She married her beloved husband Herschel (Tony) Spurgeon on March 28, 1937 in Buffalo, Missouri. He survives of the home.
Maxine lived in Bolivar, MO, until moving to KS in 1951. She worked for almost 13 years including time as a house foreman in the role of inspector at Hercules Powder Co. Maxine was also employed as an inspector for the Bendix Corp; later she became a nurse and worked at the former Lakeside Hospital in KC, MO. Nursing was a great joy in her life and she retired in 1979. Survivors include a son, Barrett Chris Spurgeon (Connie) of Gladstone, MO; daughters, Lanna Jane Spurgeon (Gene) of Lexington, MO and Ginger Chance of Lawrence, KS; former son in law, Clarence Chance of DeSoto; 8 grandchildren, Patrick Spurgeon (Megan), Kimberly Baker (Robert), Brent S. Wyatt (Ryan Crisp), Wendy Jane Matousek (Roman), Matthew Rios, Tony Rios, Perry S. Chance (Kirsten) Dana Chance and grandson in law, Mike Warner; 4 great grandchildren, Cody and Colton Baker, Hannah Hagan and Brett Chance.
