Dolores "Dee" Claflin of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family, on Monday, January 21, 2008.
Dee was born July 26, 1935 in Chewton, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Ellwood City High School in 1952 and subsequently moved to Los Angeles to begin a career as a flight attendant for TWA. On May 23, 1958, she married John W. "Jack" Claflin. She and Jack lived in Summit, NJ, Hinsdale, IL and Indianapolis before moving to Overland Park, Kansas, in 1970. She attended Rolling Hills Presbyterian church for 38 years and loved singing in the choir. Dee raised three children then began a career traveling the world as a corporate travel director for Maritz. She was an avid golfer and was fortunate enough to play at St. Andrews, Scotland, Pebble Beach, CA and at numerous courses in Hawaii. She made people laugh!
Dee is survived by her husband Jack and her three children, daughters Betsy Martin of Freeman, MO and Jamie (Ty) Martin of Paola, KS, and son Scott (Carol) Claflin of West Hills, CA, parents of her beautiful granddaughter, Emma. She is also survived by her father, Carmen Leopardo of Wampum, PA, one brother, James (Donna) Leopardo of Wampum, PA and three sisters, Carole Allyn of Roseville, CA, Diana DeJulia (Joe) Bougher of Wheatland, PA, Jackie (Don) Melfi of Ellwood City, PA. She is preceded in death by her mother Naomi Leopardo.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave., Overland Park, KS. A gathering of family and friends will be at church immediately following the service.
