Donald “Don” Asbury of Olathe, KS went into the presence of the Lord on Friday, October 9, 2015 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Don was born in New York, New York on July 4, 1948. He married Catherine Hill on April 29, 1983, who survives of the home. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2009, after more than 40 years of service. At the time of his death he was employed at Physicians Reference Lab. Don enjoyed Formula 1 Racing, vacationing in Florida, and spending time with his family and friends, especially on the Fourth of July.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy W. Asbury. In addition to his wife, Don is survived by three daughters, Shari Decker of Leawood, Laura (Matt) Yeamans of Allen, TX, and Niccole Jasper of Dover, OH; six grandchildren, Hannah and Cole Decker, Noah and Seth Yeamans, and Willow and Decclan Jasper; two brothers, Dennis (Monica) Asbury of Huntington Beach, CA and Dustin (Jennifer) Asbury of CT; one sister, Joyce Lindeken of Wichita, KS; his mother Rose M. Asbury of Olathe; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, at 10:30 AM at Olathe Christian Church, 1115 S. Ridgeview Road in Olathe. At his request, Don will be cremated, and a private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Olathe Hospice.
