Donald Gillis Coburn of Overland Park, KS, 85, passed away January 3rd, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice. He was born July 4, 1930 to F. Dwight & Evelyn Gillis Coburn in Kansas City, KS.
Following his graduation from Wyandotte High School in 1948, he attended the University of Kansas until the outbreak of the Korean War when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his discharge in 1955 he attended and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin where he earned a degree in Business Administration. In 1956 he became a registered representative of Stern Brothers & Co., and some 30 plus years later retired as a Vice-President of that firm. In the interim he also worked for Blyth & Co., Blyth Eastman Dillon and White Weld & Co.
Don is survived by his daughters Dana Coburn Cook and husband David of Overland Park, Ginger K. Coburn of Austin, TX. , brother Clay E. Coburn of Leawood, KS., a half-brother, Foster Dwight Coburn lll of Cave Creek, AZ., and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 plus years, Dorothy Gerba Coburn, his son Ronald Charles Coburn, both parents, his twin sister Jeanne & sister Marjorie Cain.
Visitation and Funeral services will be held Monday January 11th (11:00 visitation, 12:00 funeral) at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church located at 67th & Nall Ave., Mission, KS. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery, 38th & State Ave., Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
