Mr. Donald Wilson

Donald G. Wilson, 81, longtime resident of Leawood, KS, passed away August 21, 2016.  He was born July 10, 1935 in Little River, KS, the son of Donald James and Oral Adelia (Sherman) Wilson.    He spent many harvests on custom cutting crews earning money for college.  He attended Fort Hays State University from 1953 to 1955 before transferring to Kansas State University where he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1959 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha.  He served in the Kansas Air National Guard from 1958 to 1964.  He met his love, Susie Tomson at a diner in downtown Kansas City, MO and they married on August 24, 1962.   In 1961 he joined the architectural firm of Hewitt and Royer (later URS Hewitt & Royer) where he mentored numerous individuals who later started their own design firms.  He was NCARB certified and a registered architect in 46 states.  Don founded the Kansas City architectural firm of Wilson Johnson Associates in 1980 and continued to play an active role in its leadership for the next 27 years.  While Don’s forte was architecture, his passion was focused on healthcare projects and he often traveled to serve those whose mission was to care for others.  He is survived by his beloved wife Susie Wilson.  Memorial services will be 10 AM Friday, Sept. 9th at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS.  Interment will be at Bean Cemetery, Little River, KS.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie, Village, KS 66208.  Fond memories and on line condolences may be left at www.johnsoncountychapel.com.
