Donald Wilson

February 10, 1936 — February 10, 2009

Donald Fitzgerald Wilson, 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 10th, 2009.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 13, 2009 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. A visitation will begin two hours prior to service times in the chapel. Interment will be in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.

Don was born July 30th, 1935, in Madisonville, Kentucky. He met the love of his life, Sue Ann, and soon after began their life’s journey together. They were soon blessed with two sons, David and Dennis, to complete their lively and loving young family. After a long, successful career in the petroleum industry and civic work with Junior Achievement, the family eventually moved from Indianapolis, IN to Overland Park, KS in 1979. Don’s career was evolving towards the agricultural industry and he eventually partnered to expand Kalo, Inc. After Kalo was sold, he moved on to PBI Gordon and later retired in 2000. Don enjoyed athletics throughout his life and was involved in corporate softball leagues as a young man. He later focused on tennis, a hobby which continued into retirement. Retirement also included wonderful travels with Sue by his side, time spent with good friends, and the joy of his new granddaughter, Ellery. He was a strong man and fought leukemia and his heart condition valiantly to the end. He touched many lives and will be remembered fondly for his quick wit, laughter and his gentle soul. He also leaves Dave’s wife, Kelley, Sue’s sister, Judy McLain and many loved relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, of which Don was a commissioned Colonel. www.kycolonels.org; 1717 Alliant Avenue, Suite 14, Louisville, KY 40299 or American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 6811 W. 63rd St., Suite 2002, Shawnee Mission, KS 66202.
