Dora Schulteis

August 4, 1909 — February 1, 2008

Dora Elizabeth Schulteis (98), born August 4, 1909, passed away quietly and courageously Friday, February 1, at St. Luke?s Hospital due to complications from surgery. Dora was born in Block, Kansas to John and Lena Grother. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Henry Grother, Ernest Grother, Herman Grother and Walter Grother and beloved sister, Irene Thies.
She came to Kansas City in the early 1920?s, where she met and married David Schulteis, her husband of 39 years who died in 1968. David and Dora were founding members of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church of Kansas City, Kansas and she was an active member in their Chapter of Lutheran Woman?s Missionary League. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and received her 25 year Volunteer Pin for 25 years of contribution. She was active and avid lover of all things Christian and loved her Church and all its members.


She is survived by her two daughters, Betty L. Barton and Catherine M. Crawford and her husband, Dr. Robert Crawford; five grandchildren, Linda Barton Stoylen and her husband, Rolf Stoylen of Atlanta, Georgia, Sharon King of Kansas City, Missouri, Christine Compton and her husband, Robert Compton of Overland Park, Kansas, Elizabeth Ohmstede and her husband, Rodney of Smith Center, Kansas and William Crawford and his wife, Linda of El Segundo, California and six great grandchildren, Clayton King, Lauren Compton, Alexandra Compton, William Compton, Hannah Ohmstede and Carlie Ohmstede.

Visitation and Memorial Services will be held at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS Tuesday, February 5 at 10am and 11am, respectively, followed by burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials to one of the following, Our Savior?s Lutheran Church?s Pre School Program or the Sabo Library Program Bethany Lutheran Church.
