Mrs. Doris Boyd

August 22, 1923 — January 20, 2016

Doris Boyd, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2016.  Doris was born August 22, 1923, to Laurence Samuel and Myrtle Bryson Hamilton in Pittsburgh, PA.  Doris graduated from Perry High School in 1940 then attended business school in Pittsburgh.  She worked as a secretary at Kerchner Marshall Company.  Doris met George Knox Boyd at Eighth United Presbyterian Church, and they were married on September 3, 1949.  Early years of their marriage were spent in Minnesota, Germany (during George’s military service), and Wisconsin, before moving to Kansas City in 1960.  As a member of Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church, Doris served as an Elder, Preschool Board member, Women’s Circle Leader, and member of the Handbell Choir.  Doris supported children in the community through her work with scouting, the PTA, and a nursery school for disabled children.  She also volunteered at the Nettleton Home, and was a member of P.E.O. and the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary.  After raising five children, she worked in her husband’s medical office.  Doris found great joy in planning gatherings for family and friends, as well as reunion vacations with children and grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her children, Thomas Boyd (Becky), Laurence Boyd (Meg), John Boyd (Becky), Ruth Blair (Christopher) and Martha Hahn (Danny); twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.  Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George K. Boyd; and her siblings, Anna Marie Snatchko, Jean Victoria Jones, and Laurence Samuel Hamilton, Jr.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 25th at 10:30am at Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church, 7406 Ward Pkwy, Kansas City, MO.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church.
