Doris Kreuzberger

Doris Kreuzberger made an unexpected, rapid and peaceful departure from this earth on October 4, 2018.  She died at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.  Born at home to Irene (Kain) and Ralph Westerman in Sarver, PA., on July 28, 1925, she lived in her family home until she married Jim Kreuzberger in 1956.  They moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where they lived until 1963, when they relocated to Overland Park. After the move to Kansas, she and Jim joined Valley View United Methodist Church and immediately immersed themselves in their new church family.  Doris served the church in many capacities, including decades of teaching Sunday school and chairing the Memorial Committee until just a few years ago.

Doris’s professional career included transcription and medical secretarial duties at KU Med Center, Olathe Hospital, and Anesthesia Associates. After retiring she volunteered and her favorite was serving at the Ronald McDonald House.  She also faithfully made cookies each week for the evening adult care group at Valley View.

Doris was the heart and fun of her family.  When she returned home from work one day, her young niece said, “Aunt Doris is home – now we can start having fun!”  Her eyes never lost their sparkle, and she could always be counted on for a sassy, witty retort.  She loved to laugh and learned early to always say “yes” to an invitation.  Doris never met a stranger and naturally made everyone welcomed and included.  She personified the “Golden Rule.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, two brothers, husband Jim (2010), daughter Jane (2008) and son-in-law Britt Elam (2014).  She leaves daughter Cindy (Daryl) Craft, son Jim, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, beloved nieces and nephews, and a life-time of friends.

A celebration of her amazing life will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park 66210.  Visitation will begin at 1:00, with the service following at 2:00. A reception will be held following the committal service at the funeral home.
