Doris was born at the family farm on March 29, 1919, near Maple Hill, KS to James Simon and Mary Glogau Oliver. Perhaps as a result of her farm background, she has a love of nature and a green thumb that enabled her to keep plants thriving both inside and outside the house. After graduation from Maple Hill High School, she attended beauty college and worked for a time as a hairdresser. She later traveled to California where she was employed as a ?Rosie Riveter? during World War II. She was united in marriage to Walter D. Tarbutton on December 12, 1942, in Los Angeles, CA; a marriage that lasted over sixty years prior to Walter?s recent death. After raising her children she worked for the Marley Company. Following retirement, Doris enjoyed attending numerous reunions of the 95th Inf. Div. alumni organization with Walter and is a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church.
Doris was a wonderful mother, cook and homemaker to her husband and children. She is survived by her three children, Daryl (Geraldine) Tarbutton of Chicago, Barbara Collins of Roeland Park, Roger (Ruth) Tarbutton of Overland Park, four grandchildren, Sean Collins, Whitney Tarbutton , Sharon Tarbutton, Morgan Tarbutton and two great-grandchildren, Chandler and Tye Collins. Doris was predeceased by her brothers, John Oliver, Jim Oliver, Fred Oliver and Harold Oliver and is survived by her sister, Jessie Oliver Williams of Truth-or-Consequences, N.M; and sisters-in-law, Billye Oliver of Grove, OK and Shirley Oliver of Maple Hill, KS.
