Doris White

October 15, 1926 — May 26, 2017

Doris Marie (Dodie) White, age 90, graduated to heaven from home surrounded by her family on May 26, 2017.  Doris was born October 15, 1926 in Sac City, Iowa to Leland and Lela Sanders.
She grew up on a farm near Fonda, Iowa and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1944. She then moved to Kansas City and went to work at Union Station. Doris and Robert L. White met at the Playmoor Ball Room in Kansas City in 1945.  Doris and Bob were married May 4, 1946 at Centropolis Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. Doris began working at Jones Store in 1987 and then worked at Macy’s until age 88.  But the focus of her life was her family.  Doris was the original of “Do more with Less”.  She was always thinking of her family so her kids would not do without.  She gardened every summer and canned what they grew.  She made her children’s clothing while never once complaining about all she did for her family.   But what will be missed most of all besides her love for her family, is her Christmas cookies she made for her family.
Doris was preceded in death by her father, Leland Sanders; mother Lela Harter Lucas; her step-father Wayne Harter and her sister, Fern M. Lingelbach. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. White of 71 years; her sons: Thomas B. (Sandy) White, Robert L. White II; her daughter, Rhonda W. (Glenn) Davis; grandsons:  Joel (Wendy) White, Kelly (Heidi) Case, Robert L. White, III, Cooper White, Matthew (LeAnn) Davis, Nathan Davis (Hannah, fiance) as well as three great-granddaughters, and several nieces and a nephew.   Memorial contributions in memory of Doris may be given to Blue Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 8925 151st, Overland Park, KS 66221.
