Dorothy Arnote

October 12, 1933 — January 31, 2018

Dorothy Elaine Arnote, 84, of Prairie Village, KS, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, after a courageous battle with vascular dementia. A visitation will be held at 9 AM on Saturday, February 3, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, with service at 10 AM. Burial will follow at the Salem Cemetery in Mercer County, MO.

“Dot” was born October 12, 1933, in Winston, MO, the daughter of Lola May and Carl O. Morrison. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, David Morrison. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim; her sons, Jay and Jeff; daughter-in-law, Deanne; and three grandchildren, Jared, Katie, and Allie Arnote.

Dot graduated from Gallatin High School where she was both Valedictorian and Homecoming Queen. She earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia. While a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, she met Jim, and they married at the First Baptist Church of Gallatin, on August 7, 1955. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked as an Executive for Hallmark Cards.

Later, she led many community endeavors, including serving as President of the Research Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. Dot was Vice Chairman of the Board, a Deacon, and sang in the choir at Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village, KS, where her family was active members. She was also involved in many neighborhood groups, bridge clubs, garden clubs, and house designer philanthropies. She was a cub scout leader and was involved in several mothers’ organizations. Dot’s favorite pastime was collecting items to sell at her Church garage sale and at Research Hospital Charity sales.
