Dorothy Marie Carter, 85, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, April 12, 2007.
A celebration of Dorothy?s life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16th at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. While at the gathering of family and friends 10:00 ? 11:00 a.m. preceding the service, please take a moment to visit the Enduring Memories booth to create a personal remembrance for the family that they will cherish for years to come.
Daughter of Frank and Nellie Williams, Dorothy was born in Columbus, Kansas on June 7, 1921 and was reared in Scammon, Kansas with her three brothers, all of whom have preceded her in death. Dorothy came to Kansas City in 1942 to work at Lake City Arsenal where she met Bill. They were married February 2, 1943 and he left shortly thereafter to serve in the Army. He returned in December 1945 and they purchased a house in Overland Park in 1948 where she lived the rest of her life. Dorothy was known for her cooking, gardening, and love of birds. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and was devoted to her family.
She is survived by Bill, her husband of 64 years; sons William Edward Carter, Jr. and wife Susan, Donald James Carter and wife Linda, and Roger Carter and wife Jennifer; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
