Dorothy Jean Gould Bartley Roepe

February 3, 1920 – July 16, 2021

Overland Park, Kansas – On July 16, 2021, Dorothy Jean Roepe passed away in her home at Brookdale Assisted Living.  She was 101.

Dorothy was born in Osage City, Kansas to Jeanne and Ossie Jay Gould.  She graduated from Argentine High School in 1938.  She married Verlin R. Bartley in 1938.  Together they raised their children, Linda and Robert (Buzz) Bartley.

She was a devoted Christian and taught Sunday at the Congregational Church in Argentine, Kansas.  She was a member of Eastern Star.  After moving to Roeland Park and then Merriam, Kansas, she became a member of Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas.  She spent many hours volunteering for the church, visiting nursing homes and knitting caps for newborn babies.  She and Verlin traveled for vacations and conferences.  They were members of Tomahawk Hills Country Club and Milburn Country Club where both were golfers.  She also played and loved bridge until she was 101.  She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She made Christmas eve at her house special every year.

Verlin passed away in January, 1988 and Dorothy married their friend Roland Roepe in 1994.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Miller and husband Bob, and her son Robert (Buzz) Bartley and his wife Suzy, by her grandchildren, Mindy Miller and Bart Miller and his wife Becky, Debbie Bartley and Scott Bartley and his wife Kellie, and her great grandchildren Spencer Petrillo and his wife Nikki, Cassie Petrillo, Nicholas and Noah Bartley, Andrew, Owen and Claire Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Mary Gladys and Maxine, and her husbands, Verlin Bartley and Roland Roepe.
