Mrs. Dorothy (Shelton) Beets

Dorothy Lorraine (Shelton) Beets, 88, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at her home in Prairie Village, KS.
A funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens – Indoor Garden of Memories.
Dorothy was born October 18, 1924, in Paola, KS, to Stephen A. Shelton and Verna O. Shelton. She attended schools in Paola and graduated from Paola High School in 1943. During her childhood she assisted her parents who owned and operated a restaurant. She worked at the Sunflower Ordnance Plants in De Soto, KS, during World War II to aid the war effort.
She married Francis Lee Beets, of the Paola area, on June 22, 1945. They had two children, Randall Lee and Pamela Lee. She was a wonderful homemaker, mother and aid to Lee in his career. She attended conventions with Lee and cared for the children and the home front when Lee was traveling. When the children were in grade and high school, the family belonged to Milburn Golf and Country Club and later Dot and Lee were members of Indian Hills Country Club until recent years. Dot and Lee have been members of the Village Presbyterian Church since 1956.
Dorothy, known as Dottie & Dot, loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to most of the states in the US and in addition to Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Caribbean. She particularly enjoyed the trips to London, Paris and Rome.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years; her parents; and sister, Loree Siso.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Randall Lee (Nancy) Beets, of Omaha, NE; daughter, Pamela Lee Kermoade, of Prairie Village, KS; six grandchildren, Nathan Alan Lankford, Carrie Leanne Gorges, Michael William Beets, David Brett Kermoade, Lauren Nicole Kermoade and Whitney Ruthanne Beets; and ten grandchildren.
