Dorothy Weber

October 20, 1914 — October 29, 2007

Dorothy Thorpe Weber, 93, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2007 at her home in Lakeview Village.

Dorothy was born in Lakin, Kansas on October 20, 1914. She was one of five children born to Clarence and Ella Thorpe. She was a graduate of Chillicothe Business College. Dorothy worked for the Johnson County Library from 1957 to 1976. She was Interim Librarian from January 1966 to July 1966. She has been a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church since 1954. She joined the Soroptimist Club in Mission, KS in 1966 and was an active member and held many offices, including that of President. She loved traveling and was an avid card player. She enjoyed painting and was the family poet. She was always the first one to help friends and neighbors in need and taking care of others kept her young in spirit. We already miss your Sunday dinners and special smile and stories of family history.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Weber in 1979; and her son-in-law, John Manning in 2003. Survivors include her daughter, Judy Manning of Overland Park, KS; son, Douglas Weber and wife Gail of Albuerque, NM; loving second daughter, Mary Brown and husband Lloyd of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, John (Amy) Manning, Michelle Weber, Julie (Scott) Mueller, and Heather (James) Hatch; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2007 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will begin an hour prior to service times at the chapel.
