Dorothy Marie Williams, 99, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Dorothy was born on February 27, 1916 to William and Ruby Avis of North Kansas City, Missouri.
After graduating from North Kansas City High School, class of 1934, Dorothy attended Research Nursing School. She then married the love of her life Glover L. Williams of Linden, MO. They enjoyed 70 wonderful years together raising their four daughters in Mission Hills, KS. Besides being a loving wife and mother, she was blessed with eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild.
While raising her family, Dorothy and Glover were among the principal founders and charter members of Leawood Baptist Church, where she served tirelessly in her church community.
Dorothy was devoted to her faith in God, her family, and her country. She instilled these values in her family, her friends, and everyone who became a part of her life. Known by all to be a powerful prayer warrior, Dorothy prayed faithfully for the needs of others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Glover L. Williams in 2005. Also she was preceded in death by her sister, Wilma Weakley and her brother, Milton Avis. Another brother, William Avis, followed her in death shortly after her passing. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry L. Lowry (Eldon), Mission Hills, KS, Linda L. Smith, Prairie Village KS, D. Diann Veith, Overland Park, KS and Deborah K. Lambert (Jeff) of Naples, Florida and her Sister-in-law and husband, Dr. Robert and Bonnie Clayton.
Dorothy will be missed by all who loved her gentle spirit, her sweet kindness, and her jovial laughter, that lifted the spirits of everyone.
Her family deeply appreciates the excellent care she received at her home, from dedicated and loving nurses, as well as from Crossroads Palliative Care and Hospice, and Care Haven Homes.
Dorothy’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24th, beginning at 2:00 P.M, followed by her Celebration of Life at 3:00 P.M. at Leawood Baptist Church, 8200 State Line, Leawood, KS. Private family burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
