Dorothy, age 88, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009. A funeral service will be held on
Saturday, October 31 at 10:30 am at Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park with
the viewing beginning at 9:30 am.
Dorothy resided at The Atriums in Overland Park. She was born May 1, 1921 in Mapleton,
Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Lena Marie Goedert. She lived in the Kansas City area for 78
years. After graduating from Westport High School, Dorothy began a modeling career and
worked for several stores including Nellie Don Fabrics.
Dorothy’s husband, Robert D. Wood, was the love of her life. In 1942, they married on a threeday
pass before he left to serve his country for three years during World War II. Dorothy lived a
full and caring life surrounded by loved ones including their children Steve, Don, and Sue.
Dorothy was a member of Valley View Methodist Church and a member of Johnson County
Young Matrons. Throughout her life, she was generous to several charitable causes.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her sister Margaret Allen, and her brother “Pete”
Goedert. Her three children and their spouses survive her: Steve and Marcy of Greenwood
Village, Colorado, Don and Patti of Kansas City, Missouri, and Sue and Carl of Charlotte, North
Carolina. Seven grandchildren, Michael, Lindsey, Brett, Stephanie, Matt, Bobby, Amy and three
great grandchildren, Reece, Julia, and Kai, also survive her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in her honor be made to Paralyzed Veterans
of America, 801 18th St. NW, Washington, DC 20006. Condolences and memories can be
