Doug Herthel

June 28, 1943 — July 30, 2008

Doug Herthel, age 65, of Olathe, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Olathe Medical Center.

A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kan. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

Doug was born in Hoisington, Kan., son of Velma Beetz and Franklin Herthel. Doug moved to the Kansas City area shortly after starting a long and rewarding career in the dental industry. Doug had great passion for his family, friends, and work. He married Carol Steinert in 1963 and had two children, Terri Lynn and Todd Allen, who have many fond memories of family vacations and trips to the lake. Doug loved to golf, hunt and fish, along with many activities that would take him outdoors. On his journey of life he married Gail Hoeppner Herthel. They were married in 1991 and lived a wonderful life together in Olathe, Kan. Doug was successful in balancing his family with work and loved them all dearly. Doug was a kind and gentle soul who was a quiet giant to all those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife Gail Herthel; two children, daughter, Terri L. Richter, Cypress, Texas, and son Todd A. Herthel of Shawnee, Kan.; three grandchildren, Ashley, Brett, and Lyssa Richter of Cypress, Texas; one sister, Karen Nicholson, Great Bend Kan.
