Dr. Jeanne H Stevenson, PhD died at her home at Kingswood Retirement Community, on September 3rd, 2021. Jeanne was born Billie Jean Hackley on April 20, 1927 in Glasgow, Missouri, one of six children of Roy and Leona Hackley. Jeanne completed undergraduate studies at Kansas City University. She continued her studies at Iowa University where she met the love of her life, Andrew Stevenson, PhD. They were united in marriage on August 24, 1967. After receiving a doctorate degree in History at Iowa University, she and Andy accepted teaching positions at Emporia State College. After several years there, they moved to Baltimore, Maryland where Jeanne taught History and Political Science at The University of Notre Dame of Maryland and Andy taught Science Education at Morgan State University. During her academic career, Jeanne was a tenured Professor in the History and Political Science Departments. She served as Chair of the History Department for many years. After retirement, Jeanne and Andrew returned to the Kansas City area to be near family.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Andrew, her parents Roy and Leona Hackley, her siblings Marion Hackley, Louise Conran, Dorothy Conran, Leona Hagedorn, Ruby Stallman and nieces Bertha Peralta, Judith Suttner, Darlene Conran, Carolyn Vogel, Jeanne Marie Hackley and nephews John Conran and James Conran. Jeanne is survived by nieces Shirley Parrot, Joyce Morgan, and Leah Hagedorn and nephew Leon (Patricia) Hagedorn, and many grand and great nieces and nephews.
The family expresses deep gratitude for the special care given Aunt Jeanne by Samantha and Kenward Reid and Carmen Robinson.
