D.T. Stayton

D.T. Stayton, age 89, of Lenexa, KS, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Overland Park, KS. He was born on August 30, 1923 in Union County, NM to his parents, Dennis and Mary Stayton. He grew up in Dalhart, TX.

D.T. was the youngest of seventeen children. He married Nancy Ellen Bushey in Lenexa, KS on May 16, 1992. He attended Pasadena College in California, graduating in 1955 with a Master's degree in Theology. He served in the Army Air Corp for 3 years and was a veteran of WW II. He was a Pastor and later with his wife, founded Pioneer Christian Academy in Olathe, KS. He owned and operated KCWJ 1030 AM Christian Radio in Independence, MO. He was a long-time resident of Lenexa, KS for 33 years. He was self-employed as a Real Estate Developer for 60 years building houses, churches and restaurants and other commercial property. D.T. was a member of Peoples Chapel in Gardner, KS. He enjoyed working, history, traveling and spending time with family.

D.T. will be remembered by his loving wife, Nancy Stayton and three children: Joyce (Ken) Ball, Joy Tallant and Dean Stayton; four step-children, Stephanie (John) Peck, Stacy Woody, Eddie (Kayla) Bushey, Matthew (Amy) Bushey; and 13 grandchildren.
Mr. Stayton was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 3, 2013 at D.W Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park KS 66210. Entombent will follow at Johnson County Courtyard of Memories. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the funeral home.
