E. Wiley Barker, 90 Overland Park passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, April 25, 2007.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Red Bridge Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 8144 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Missionary Fund for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in care of Bishop Mark Iba 4524 W. 97th Street Overland Park, KS 66207 or Kansas City Hospice House 12000 Wornall Road Kansas City, MO 64145.

Mr. Barker was born in Plain City, UT on August 1, 1916. He and his family moved to Kansas City, MO when he was 11 years old, and have lived here ever since.
Mr. Barker received recognition in Ripley?s for having had 23 years worth of education by the time he reached 23. He has earned five degrees. He has an associate of Arts and Science from a junior college, a Bachelor of History and Political Science, a Bachelor of Finance and Accounting, and an LLB Bachelor of Law, as well as a Juris Doctor from UMKC.

Mr. Barker received two honorable discharges from serving in WWII and the Korean War. When he was stationed in Japan he was an instructor at the Counter Intelligence Academy and one year taught every graduate of West Point Academy. He was employed by Trans World Airlines for 46 years and worked as General Attorney and Assistant Corporate Secretary and never once missed a day of work. From 1972 to 1986 he was president of TWA Credit Union which was the 17th largest credit union in the nation. He was written up in the Wall Street Journal, which said he had ?invented perpetual motion in the industry? because TWA never charged more than 8% interest and yet paid out dividends of up to 10-?%. An industry magazine said they were the best-run financial institution in the country.

For 16 years Mr. Barker commuted between New York City and KC. The assignment to work in NYC started out to be a temporary job for six months and turned into 16 years. He didn?t want to move the family back east, so he would commute home on Friday night and return to NYC on Sunday night or Monday morning.

Mr. Barker was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life and held numerous positions of leadership. While working in New York City, Mr. Barker held church positions in both cities. In Kansas City, he served as 2nd counselor in the stake presidency and in NYC he served as the Young Men?s Leader as well as helping with the young women?s groups. In September 1943 he married Sarah Audrey Story and they have 7 children Michael Wiley, Sarah Elizabeth, David Leroy, Rebecca Doris, Deborah Ann, John Thomas and James Elbert. They also have 35 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild so far.
