Earnest Dixon

Earnest (Ernie) Allen Dixon, age 84 of Olathe, KS passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice House after courageously battling emphysema and lung cancer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 14, 2009 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service in the chapel. Interment in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The only son of Loreah E. Chambers and Richard P. Dixon, Ernie was born on May 24, 1924 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Paseo High School in 1942. Ernie enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers and served in Manila during WW II.

Ernie married Carolyn L. Austin January 30, 1947 in Kansas City. She preceded him in death in 1974.
Ernie was a mechanical engineer, and retired from Allied Signal in 1990. Ernie was instrumental in developing the City of Lenexa’s Civil Defense program and served as the Civil Defense Director there for many years.

Ernie married Pearl JoAnn Leftwich in Olathe on November 21, 1981. He is survived by his wife and children; James Dixon, Sharon and Larry Durham, Sandi and Bill Hamilton, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Rebecca Carlson.
