Edith Vernay Andrew, 95, Mission, Kan., passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Rosedale Congregational Church, 4326 Lloyd Street, Kansas City, KS 66103.
Vernay was born June 28, 1913, in Prairie Center, Kan. She graduated from Olathe High School. She then went on to receive her nurse's training at St. Mary's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was a Private Duty Nurse and Registered Nurse for over 25 years at St. Luke's Hospital and then became a Corporate Nurse for Mobil Oil Company, retiring in 1978. She dedicated her life to the service of others through her nursing skills. Vernay was a devoted member of Rosedale Congregational Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Allie Andrew; mother, Della Richardson Andrew; sister, Fern Andrew; sister, Dorothy Andrew Adams; and brother, Charles Leslie Andrew. Survivors include her three adopted children, Patricia Pierce, Barbara Justus, and Charles Adams; and two nephews, Richard and Larry Andrew; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
