E. Louise (Sutherlin) Nichols Benson, 88, Overland Park passed away on February 26, 2008 after a short illness. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at D. W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday at the chapel. Burial at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO.
Louise was born December 18, 1919 to Henry Edward and Edith May Sutherlin. She graduated from the Independence school system, and was married to Dean Windsor Nichols. Their marriage produced on son, Edward Theodore Nichols. Both her husband and son preceded her in death.
In 1968 she married Bennie J. Benson and they enjoyed a marvelous 32 year marriage until his death in September 2000. Both Louise and Bennie were involved in many interests and social activities and traveled with their groups of friends to many destinations. They found time to entertain other member of all of the various organizations to which they belonged.
Louise enjoyed a long professional career as a secretary and then an administrative assistant. She was Administrative Assistant at Conchemco, Inc for 31 years, retiring in 1985. For 17 years (1982-1999) she was Executive Secretary of the Missouri State Florists? Association. From the late 1950?s Louise was a member of the Westport Chapter, International Association of Administrative Professionals. She served in all of the officer chairs and was president of the chapter in 1977-78 and 1978-79. She was also president of the Missouri Division in 1979-80.
In the early 1980?s Louise was an active member of Zonta International and president of her chapter for several terms. She was a member of the Omega Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Louise was also a very active member, since 1976, of the Heart of America Riding Club and a Doe in Drove No. 74, Elks. She was a former member of the Women?s Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City and of Leawood Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward L. Sutherlin. Louise is survived by many loving family members.
