Edith Waller, 100, passed away Friday, January 16, 2009.
A funeral service will be held 10 A.M., Wednesday, January 21 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Kansas City Athenaeum, 900 E. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64109 or to Prairie Baptist Church, 7416 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Edith was born November 22, 1908 to John Franklin Waller and Sarah Hall Waller in Wapanuka, Oklahoma. She graduated from Wapanuka High School and received her Bachelor of Arts from Southern University. She went on to attend the University of Northern Colorado, where she received her master’s degree.
A member of the Kansas City Athenaeum, Edith served as Secretary of Club House Community Board for 10 years. For 33 years, she taught from Oklahoma to New Mexico and retired in 1975.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and two brothers. Survivors include her nephew, Lanny Kern and his wife, Verna; niece, Diane Shepherd; and many great and great great nephews and nieces.
