Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Services will follow at the chapel on Thursday. Entombment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens Courtyard of Memories.
EJ was born in Quincy, Missouri on September 5th, 1921 to Charles and Lennie Wilson. They moved the family to Appleton City, Missouri where he spent all his early years and played varsity Baseball and Basketball with his brother John for the Appleton City High School Bulldogs. As a young man he worked in Butler, Missouri for George Hill Phillips 66 Bulk Oil. Then with Archer & Archer Architects and Engineers. He started a career with Wonder Bread in 1943; he held management positions in the field and at the home office until he retired in 1982 at the age of 62. He and Maureen were avid Royals fans and had great season tickets for many years. He was a big reader; he liked history and the biographies of important people.
But the thing that best defines EJ in his later years was his real estate property holdings. He owned rental homes for 40 years. He made lasting relationships with his many tenants, working to clean and repair the properties was an important bonding experience for our family.
EJ was a life long member of the Overland Park Christian Church. He hoped to have his favorite preacher Forrest Haggard say a few words at his funeral but Forrest beat EJ to heaven.
Friendly and outgoing EJ made many friends over the years. In recent years he took care of an elderly cousin, Mildred Clarke. He made sure her life was comfortable and she was well attended to until her death. He was especially generous with his time and would work tirelessly to help you get a task done.
EJ is preceded in death by his three brothers, Lt. John Wilson, Melvin Wilson and Fred Wilson. His older sister, Fern Irvin is well and lives in Adrian, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Maureen Wilson. Also four children, James & Daleen Wilson of Leawood, Barry Wilson of Olathe, Shirley & Anthony Gagliano of Leawood, and Judson & Kathy Shepherd of Overland Park. Also five granddaughters, Tarah Wilson Kent, Jaime Wilson, Layla Wilson, Christine Waters and Shelly Zade. Four great-grandchildren, Jack and Josie Waters and Cole and Jordan Zade.
Special thanks to Matt at Heaven Sent Home Care.
