EDWARD S. JONES
Edward S. Jones, 93, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Monday, January 3, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital from complications from a fall and pneumonia. Ed was born in Gypsum, Kansas, at the home of his grandfather, on July 14, 1917, to William Raymond Jones, M.D. and Vera Hawthorne Jones. Ed graduated from McPherson College and the University of Kansas Medical School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1944-1946. He practiced general medicine for 35 years in Harrisonville, MO, where he delivered close to 3700 babies. He was active in St. Peter's Episcopal Church and many other community activities there. He was a true country doctor, loved by many. He is proceeded in death by his parents William Raymond Jones M.D. and Vera Hawthorne Jones, also his son Stephen Edward Jones. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean Boswell Jones; a daughter Pamela Spinelli and husband Gene of Divide, CO; a son Bradley B. Jones, and wife Carol of Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law Gail Jordan- Jones of Madison, WI; his 6 grandchildren Stephanie Jones Hove, Kimberly Jones Thompson, Michelle Spinelli McGraw, Michael Spinelli, Anna and Nathan Jones; two step-grandchildren, Trevor and Kelsey Schraufnagel, along with 4 great-grandchildren Henry and Olivia Hove and Carly and Will Thompson; his nieces, Patricia Collins Byall, Barbara Collins Kenton and nephew, Bruce B. Collins; and many cousins that he loved. Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Peters Episcopal Church 100 E. Red Bridge Rd., Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be 1 hour prior. Following will be an inurnment at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, 66210. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Ann's Hope Foundation for Melanoma Research, Rett's Syndrome Foundation, or St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
