Edward L. Maxon died December 26, 2011 at his residence in Lenexa, KS. He was 75.
Ed was born on January 14, 1936 in Albany, MO, to Harold Forest Maxon and Mabel Grace (Runyon) Maxon. He was the youngest of his siblings, 3 brothers and 1 sister. The family later moved to Maryville, MO, where he lived until he finished high school.
From 1956-1958 Ed served in the U. S. Army. One of the highlights he often talked about was a bus trip he took from Paris to Le Mans, France to attend the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. After serving in the U.S. Army, Ed attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and graduated with a BA in Business Administration. He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Epsilon fraternity. His blood ran black and gold. He was a true Tigers fan!
After graduation Ed worked for General Electric in Owensboro, KY, where he met Jonell King. They were married on December 29, 1961. They had 3 children and in 1971 they moved their family to Overland Park where he began working with his brother, Don. Zimmer/Maxon became a dominant distributorship in the area. Ed was a hard working, dedicated representative for the company for 35 years and was well loved by everyone . . . except for maybe a few competitors! In January of 1990, Ed was involved in a head-on collision that nearly ended his life that day. Six months later he was back to work . . . and continued to work until his retirement.
Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was cooking out, fishing with his grandchildren or riding his lawn mower. He loved his church family at Leawood Baptist Church, where he has been a member since 1971. He never liked being the center of attention, but always knew what to do if he was. He enjoyed building things and working on cars. He was a kind and giving man who knew no enemies. Thank you to everyone who was a blessing to him.
Ed is survived by his wife, Jonell; daughter, Jennifer and Tony Smith; Son, Scott and Judy Maxon; Son, Tom and Andrea Maxon; his grandchildren, Brittany, Savannah, Clayton, Eric, Caitlyn, Emily, Audrey, Will, Brad, and Patrick; and his brother, Richard Maxon. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Mabel; and his siblings: Harold, Millie, and Don.
The visitation is on January 3, 2012 from 9:30-11 a.m., at Leawood Baptist Church, funeral service is at 11 a.m. Burial Service is at 12:30 p.m., at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS.
