Edward Mehl Jr., 85, of O.P. KS passed away Feb. 28, 2013. One of six children, Ed was born July 12, 1927 in St. Louis to Edward and Violet Mehl. He graduated from Smith Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO in 1945.
He served in the military for 2 years and worked at the US Postal Service as a mail carrier for over 30 years before retiring in April 1985. He also worked for Indian Hills CC for more than 50 years. The family owes a great deal of gratitude to Indian Hills CC for Mehl's Bridge and overall support.
Ed married Shirley Watson in 1949 and had two sons Matt and Tim. Shirley passed away in June 1981. Then Ed met Betty Ptacek thirty years ago and they were married in 2000.
He was an avid fisherman, skilled pool player, excellent caddy, NASCAR fan, KC sports fan, and great Square and Round dancer. Ed was hard working, trustworthy and a devoted family man.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley and sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Matt (Sue), Tim (Jamie), and grandchildren, Erin, Molly and Truan; sister, Barbara; brothers, Joe, Paul and twin brother Edgar.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. with services at 2:00, Tues. March 5 at Grace Covenant Church, College and Nieman in O.P. burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens 11200 Metcalf in O.P. Celebration of life gathering will be held from 4:00-7:00 at Bacchanalia, 12500 Newton, O.P. KS.
