Edward Schulteis

Edward R. "Ed" Schulteis, 92, of Overland Park, KS died of cancer at his home on January 16, 2015, He was born in Fairway, KS on February 15, 1922.
He was the fifth of six children born to Henry and Maria Schulteis, who immigrated to the USA from a German settlement in Russia in 1912.
He attended Kansas City Community College and Kansas University, then left college to serve in the United States Army Air Force in World War II where he prepared training maps for pilots. He was deployed to the Pacific Region toward the end of the war, and during this time his first daughter was born.  After the war, he graduated from Washburn University with a degree in Business Administration.
He met the love of his life, Martha Lewis, at a USO dance while stationed in Tampa, FL.  Ed and Martha were married on October 24, 1944 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church at 42nd and Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, KS.  They just celebrated their 70th anniversary last fall and six children were born from this union.
Ed, with his father and brothers owned and operated Colonial Fixture Co. in downtown Kansas City, MO. for close to 50 years.  Customers included Macy’s, Hallmark Cards and Katz Drugs to name a few.  Ed retired in 1983 to become a full time farmer.  He enjoyed looking over his herd of cattle and supervising his sons on the farm.  He was still driving his tractor in the last year of his life.
The most important things in his life were faith and family, which he lived in word and deeds.  Ed served as Elder and on the Building Committees for Our Saviour Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran Church.  Ed and Martha were charter members of Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS.  He started the Boy Scout Troop at Bethany in the early 60’s.  Anytime his sons needed discipline he would take them to the farm for a little attitude adjustment.  His daughters were always perfect.(?)
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Amalia and Amelia, brothers Henry and Dave.
Ed is survived by his wife Martha , a brother Leo and his wife Marian (Louisburg, KS), daughters Carolyn Weiss and husband Richard (Greenwood, IN), Kathy Caputo and husband Jim (Olathe, KS), and sons, Ed Schulteis (Roeland Park), Ron Schulteis and wife Donna (Overland Park), Dave Schulteis and wife Debbie (Overland Park), and  Bill Schulteis and wife Brenda (Lawrence).  Ed had 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family will be greeting visitors on Friday, January 23rd, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue,  Overland Park, KS 66210.  Funeral services will be at Bethany Lutheran Church at 9101 Lamar, Overland Park, KS 66207 on January 24th, 2015 at 10 AM.  Interment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at 13901 Blackbob Road, Olathe, KS 66062. Reception for family and friends will be at Bethany immediately following the interment services.
