Eileen Horner Bell, of Prairie Village, passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 8. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village. Private graveside services will be held at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Eileen was born March 25, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., to Oliver Howard Horner and Edna Cooke Horner. She was a graduate of Wyandotte High School and attended McMurray College and the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Eileen majored in music and had a beautiful voice. After college, she sang on the radio in Kansas City while modeling for the Patricia Stevens Agency. Later moving to Chicago, she continued her modeling career and appeared regularly on The Ransom Sherman TV show and on radio.
While in Chicago, Eileen met and married Morris Adam “Buzz” Bell. After moving to Birmingham, Ala., for 6 years, they returned to the Kansas City area, where Eileen enjoyed many years as manager of the Kansas City, Mo., Jr. League, and later worked for the Jones Store Co.
Throughout her life, Eileen’s strong faith and her love of family and friends were a blessing to all. Her wonderful sense of humor will always be with us.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Morris Adam Bell, and siblings John R. Horner, Martha A. Winters, Patricia H. Chatt and Dwight C. Horner.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurel Jones, and her husband, Jeff, Prairie Village; stepson Bruce Bell and his wife, Carol, Green Bay, Wis.; and three grandchildren: Allen Jones and wife Allison, Adam Jones, and Lindsey Shriver and husband Ryan; and many step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, William W. Horner, and his wife, Adrienne; sisters-in-law Josephine Horner and Beryl Horner, many nieces and nephews, and of course, “Buzzy.”
