Eileen Dershem, age 88, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park.
Eileen was born in rural Winterset, IA to John and Gladys Armstrong. She moved to Des Moines, IA to attend Business College where she met Ray Dershem. Prior to their marriage in 1951, they spent countless hours building their first home - an Aladdin pre-cut house. Ray’s job took the family to Overland Park, KS in 1965, and Eileen became a secretary for the Shawnee Mission School District for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, bird watching and she loved the family’s cats.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Dershem of Overland Park; son, Greg Dershem of Hutchinson, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy Dershem-Vega and Bob Vega of Merriam, KS.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Garden Terrace for all their care and kindness to Eileen and family. Thanks also to Kansas City Hospice for their support during the last weeks of her life.
A memorial service is being planned to honor Eileen later in the year. Details will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of America Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208; Great Plains SPCA at 5428 Antioch Merriam, KS 66202 or Kansas City Hospice at 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
