Eileen peacefully passed away Monday night March 6th at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born May 11th, 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband of over half a century, Gene, her parents and her younger brother, Billy, who died in a tragic accident at the age of 19.
She is survived by her son Eddie and his wife Pam; their children; Rachel, her husband Tim and son Grayson; and Sam, his wife Monica and children Cassius and Fiona, all of whom reside in the area.
Being a wife and homemaker was the focus of Eileen’s life. Her interests included painting, sculpture, sewing and crocheting. She loved time with family and particularly enjoyed Sunday and Holiday family dinners.
Eileen was raised by her father, Channing, and stepmother, Lucille, in Argentine, Ks. She graduated from Argentine High School and subsequently went to work at the Boeing Aircraft plant in Fairfax. She was particularly proud of the fact that she was one of the very few people who was small enough to wire the front nose cone of the bombers being made there. It was at Boeing that she met the love of her life, Gene.
Other than a few periods in Minneapolis and Atlanta courtesy of Gene’s career in the U.S. Navy she was a lifelong resident of the area. Along with Gene she was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church, The Overland Park Trailblazers, and the Cairn Terrier Club of Kansas City.
Eileen will be fondly remembered for her unique perspectives on life.
The family wishes to thank Manor Care for the care and attention given Eileen over many years, and particular thanks to Maxine Cochran, caregiver.
Services will be held March 16th at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with Funeral to follow at 11:00. The family suggests contributions to the Maxine Cochran Continuing Education Fund in care of Ed Enloe.
