Elaine Heintz

April 14, 1923 — July 15, 2008

Elaine Heintz, 85 passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2008, at her home.

Elaine was born April 14, 1923, to Harry and Lena Borgen in Freeborn, Minnesota. She was a graduate of Fairmont High School in Fairmont, Minnesota. She attended business school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and became a secretary for Standard Oil of Indiana in Mankato, Minnesota, where she met Ray Heintz, who was to become her husband of 57 years. Elaine became a homemaker following their marriage in 1949 as the couple lived in several locations throughout the Midwest, finally settling in Overland Park in 1962. Throughout the years, Elaine enjoyed caring for family and friends, and entertaining at the home she shared with Ray for 35 years. Her special attentions were reserved for her grandsons and her two sisters at holiday gatherings and many barbecues on the patio. Elaine and Ray moved to the Atriums in 1997, and lived happily there until Ray's passing in 2006. Despite battling the effects of multiple sclerosis for over 40 years, Elaine remained alert, upbeat, and uncomplaining. She was a charter member of Atonement Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild, and actively participated in church events for many years.

In addition to her husband, Ray, Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sisters, Virginia Starr and Helen Palm. Survivors include her son, Tom and his wife Ellie; grandsons Erik and Andy; brother-in-law Virgil Pofahl; niece Lynda Halbert; nephews David and Greg Palm, and Tim Pofahl; and dear friends Roy and Jo Thoele.

A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, July 25, 2008 at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Ave.

Memorial contributions may be given to the church or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 5442 Martway, Mission, KS 66205.
