Elaine Ann McGinley went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2010. She was born on December 3, 1930, to Joe and Adeline Regan in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended the University of Iowa. Elaine loved working with flowers and joined John E. Lapes Florist as a floral designer and wedding coordinator after college. She was married to her loving husband James R. McGinley on November 28, 1953 in Cedar Rapids. The McGinley family moved to Prairie Village in 1965. They were members of the Cure of Ars Parish in Leawood. Elaine had a passion for organizing church activities and was the chair for the annual Saint Patrick's Day Dance, and the Oktoberfest event, as well as many other social activities. Elaine was uniquely talented in the art of floral arrangements. For years she ran a personalized wedding floral business providing flowers for hundreds of weddings in the Kansas City area. Elaine was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved God, family, and friends and she loved socializing and having good times. She was incredibly energetic and she had a unique sense of humor and style. She had hundreds of friends, many of whom would say, "Elaine is my best friend." She is survived by her husband Jim of 56 years, her sons Pat and Mike and his wife Mary. Her brother Joe Regan and his wife Dianne of Dallas, Texas, and sister-in-law Pat Anderson of Houston, Texas. Her granddaughters Melissa Smilor and husband Matt, and Melanie McGinley and fiance Eddie Dickerson. Elaine's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Kansas University Cancer Center including Dr. Suman Kambhampati, Sharon Lewis, and George Guilbeaux, and the entire team at the Kansas University Medical Center. The visitation will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel at 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, at the Cure' of Ars Parish at 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS.
