Mr. Elias Richard Tomkins

Elias "Eli" Richard Tomkins, our tiny warrior lost his lifelong battle with Mitochondrial Disease, Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 4:08AM at the age of three. Eli was born December 1, 2009 in Wichita, Kansas. His smile, laughter, and bravery touched people near and far. Eli's passing is felt worldwide.
Eli leaves behind his parents, Robert and Heather Tomkins; his siblings, Emily (age 12), Jace (age 9), Benjamin (age 7), and Ariana (age 6); his grandparents, Richard and Margaret Gray; and his extended family Lauren and Michaella Gumminger.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church, 9400 Pflumm Rd., Lenexa, KS. Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held 6-8PM, Friday evening, May 3, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas.
Eli's passion is books and he spent hours a day reading. In order to honor Eli's passion the family is hosting a book drive, in lieu of flowers. All books collected will be donated in Eli's name to the children's programs at KU Med. Books, cards, and financial contributions can be mailed or dropped off at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210.
