Elizabeth E. Walker, 96, Blair, Nebraska, died September 22, 2009, at Crowell Memorial Home. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Elizabeth was born October 29, 1912, in Miami, Oklahoma, to Frederic and Clara Stallsmith. Her father worked as a miner for lead and zinc mines during the mining boom in the early 1900s; he also worked for Homestake Gold Mine in South Dakota. Her mother was a one- room school house teacher after finishing 8th grade in Kansas. Elizabeth met her husband Kenneth while they were both employed at the Vinegar Hill Zinc Company in Kansas. They lived in Parsons, Kansas, during WWII and the Korean War. They were married 69 and a 1/2 years before his death in 2004. Elizabeth retired from F.W. Woolworth in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church, member of Overland Park Christian Church, and CWF. She took the Meninger Bible Study and treasured hymns of worship. She loved to play Marches on the piano, cherished petunias and geraniums, and made the best meatloaf in the world. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Kenneth. Survivors include her children, Betty (Dennis) Eccleston, Terry (Helga) Walker, and Margo (Murray) Franz; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Arrangements: D.W.
