Elizabeth O. "Betty" Stewart

January 1, 1928 — January 20, 2020

Betty was born January 1, 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas to Dr. Galen and Ruth Tice. She graduated from Rosedale High School in 1946. She then attended University of Kansas where she was a member and chapter president of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, graduating in 1950. Betty went on to receive a Master in Education from Kansas City University in 1959.

Betty was a teacher in the Kansas City, Kansas and Grandview School Districts for over twenty years.

Betty was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church for 28 years and Village Presbyterian Church for the past seven years. She was a member and past president of Chapter EL of the PEO sisterhood. In her retirement, Betty was an active volunteer at St. Joseph Medical Center and Heart to Heart International.

In retirement Betty loved travel and adventure.  She visited Japan, Alaska, England, Turkey, Switzerland, Belgium, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and the Canadian Rockies to name just a few.  She snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, climbed the rock climbing wall at Galyan’s at the age of 70, went hot air ballooning at the age of 80.  She was the only person who didn’t get sick during a mid-air refueling of a C-5 Galaxy she, and her daughter Sheryl, flew in as volunteers with Heart to Heart International to work in an orphanage in the former Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan in 2002. This is also where she learned that the Uzbeks frown upon anyone taking photographs of their military aircraft.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wayne K. Tice and former husband and dear friend, Albert E. Stewart.

Betty is survived by her two children, Mical Stewart (Tamera) and Sheryl Foreman (Kelly); grandchildren Eric Foreman (Megan) and Elise Anglin (Jessica); and great-grandchildren Jack Foreman, Harper Foreman and Scout Anglin.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Heart to Heart International.
