Ervin G. Johnston, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, peacefully passed from this world on February 16, 2009.
He was born on June 27, 1926, in Sedan, Kan. He received both his bachelor's degree and his law degree from the University of Kansas. While attending the University of Kansas, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was on the board of editors for the University of Kansas Law Review. He served his home state as chief attorney for the Kansas Commission of Revenue and Taxation from 1953-1955 and most recently was a member of Johnston, Ballweg & Tuley, L.C. He was a member of the American, Kansas and Johnson County Bar Associations and was also a fellow in the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel. He practiced law for more than 57 years. He married the love of his life, Jean, on October 6, 1951. He dearly loved his family, the artful practice of law, the outdoors, and all of God's creatures and creation.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Trantum Johnston; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Becky Johnston; daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Charles Cooper; adoring grandchildren, Carolyn, Hannah and Matt Johnston, Amy Cooper, Alyson Averitt and her husband Graham, Melissa Rowling and her husband Robert, and great grandson, Mr. Charlie Averitt. He is also survived by his brother and sister: Kenneth B. Johnston and Jocelyn Johnston.
The family has planned a visitation on Friday, February 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan., to be followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Kansas City Hospice, 10100 W. 87th St., Overland Park, KS 66212.
