Esther Shen

Esther Shen, 89, of Overland Park, Ks, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020.

Born on November 9, 1930 in Shanghai, China. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cheng-Kang Ma. She was the youngest of 5 siblings.

She attended St. John’s University, an Anglican university in Shanghai in late 1940’s. Founded in 1879 by American missionaries, St. John’s University was one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China, often regarded as the Harvard of China. She went on to teach Chinese Literature at YuCai High School, one of the most prestigious high schools in city of Shanghai for 30 years before emigrating to the U.S. in mid 80’s.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Shen; son David Shen and wife Susan Shen.

The visitation will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210, on July 9, 2020 from 6PM – 8PM.

Following the visitation, she will be transported to Forest Lawn Memorial Parks in Los Angeles, CA for her final resting place in the family plot. A memorial service will be conducted prior to the burial.
