Rogers, Ethel Tench, 93, Fairway, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 25, 2008 at Manor Care. Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29th at D. W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Ethel was born February 21, 1914 in Newark, New Jersey to Walter and Herrine Tench. Ethel was an accomplished musician. She began playing the piano at age 6 and started teaching piano at age 16. She continued teaching, her true calling, for 75 years. Ethel had over 150 compositions published for piano, organ, voice, and synthesizer. Ethel and Bob met in 1931 and married September 1, 1934 in Plainfield, New Jersey. The family moved to Fairway in 1957. They joined Old Mission Methodist Church, and were active members of the Yankee Class. Bob and Ethel enjoyed traveling. They made 30 trips to 81 countries. Ethel kept detailed journals for all their trips. She also wrote poems about the trips, and for other family occasions. Ethel was an avid seamstress and a painter. Ethel was preceded ind death by her husband of 73 years, Robert W. Rogers, who passed away in November 2007. She is survived by daughter, Nancy L. Barnes and husband Edward; son, Philip T. Rogers and wife Sandra; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
