Eugene Jaedicke

Eugene Ralph Jaedicke, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away October 10, 2012.
Gene was born December 27, 1923, the youngest of six offspring of Oscar and Minnie Volland Jaedicke of Leavenworth County, Kansas. He grew up on the family farm and attended Radium and Leavenworth High Schools. He worked as a navy shipyard welder, prior to enlisting in the United States Army in January of 1943.
Gene served in World War II as a radio repairman with Patton's Third Army, Fourth Armored Division, in France, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Germany. He earned Battle Star (European Theater) and Honorable Service decorations, and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Communications Sergeant.
Gene graduated from Kansas State University in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked as a Components and Telemetry engineer at Bendix Corp. (later Allied Signal and Honeywell) for 30 years until his retirement in 1981.
In 1953, he married Margaret Robinson of Kansas City, Kansas. Gene and Margaret celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary before her passing in 2007. They loved to travel, and took 26 cruises and many road trips together, as well as visiting China, Russia, Europe, Mexico, and Hawaii on multiple occasions.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Susan Jaedicke; his son-in-law, James Hinson; his sister, Corinne Cross; his sister-in-law, Ola Jaedicke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 PM, Saturday, October 13, 2012 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Private burial will be held in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 6800 West 93rd Street, Overland Park, KS 66212.
