Mr. Eugene Morton

Eugene Leroy Morton, age 88, of Leawood, Kan., passed away on December 24, 2009, after a brief illness. He was born April 26, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of the late Everst and Marie Morton. He graduated from East High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his first date with Grace Stevenson, Gene told his mother that he had met the woman he was going to marry. On September 20, 1942, he and Grace were married, and they have been married for 67 wonderful years. Gene was a general contractor in the greater Kansas City area and founded Morton Construction Company after many successful years in the business. Gene is survived by his wife, Grace; daughter Jean; son Jay and his wife Sandra; daughter Leslie and her fiance Rick; grandchildren Sally and her husband Anthony, Steven and his wife Kate, Shauna, Joseph, and great-grandson David. Visitation 2-3 p.m., followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. Monday, December 28, at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kan.
