Mr. Eugene Nelson

Gene Nelson entered his eternal home surrounded by his family on June 14, 2012. He was born in New Rockford, ND on December 5, 1934 to Nelius and Ester Nelson. In 1953 he graduated from Jamestown High School. Soon thereafter he met his bride Janet Schmitz, from Harvey, ND. They celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage. Gene joined the Army National Guard and also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Afterwards, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as a radar technician where he retired after over 32 years of service. He was also a graduate of North Dakota State as well as Mid-America Nazarene College.

Gene is survived by his wife Janet and four children; Mike (Nivia), Gene (Peggy), David (Laura) and Julie Harber (Steve). He was also a beloved grandpa to 17 grandchildren. A devoted husband and dad, Gene had a zest for life and adventure. He will be remembered with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Our husband, dad, and friend will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. A private graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, Kansas. We invite friends to join us for a memorial service on July 14th at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas.
