Eugene E. Walter, 86, passed away Wed., Sept. 10, 2008.

Visitation 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, KC, Mo.

Memorial gifts may be given in Gene's name to the New Haven Church Building Fund, Shawnee Mission Medical Center Foundation or the Kansas City Hospice House in c/o the funeral home.

Gene Walter was born March 17, 1922, in Hooker, Okla., and grew up in Kansas City, Mo. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1942. On May 12, 1943, Gene married Lillian (Pilly) McCollom. During his service time, he served overseas as Lead Glider Sergeant with the 439th group, 92nd Squadron and participated in seven conflicts, earning seven bronze stars. He worked for TWA from 1945 until his retirement in 1982. He served as a founding board member for Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

Gene was first of all a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family came first. He had a special love for his daughters and grandchildren. He instilled in all generosity, kindness and a love of God. He taught by example. Pilly was the love of his life, his forever sweetheart. They shared 65 wonderful years.

Gene is preceded in death by infant son, David. Gene is survived by wife, Pilly, daughters, Dianne Pearson (Scott) Independence, Mo., and Jennifer Nichols (Byron) Sonoma, Calif.; grandsons William Stuart (Christina) and David Stuart (Kristine), and Nick Pearson; great grandchildren Timothy, Bethany and Rachel Stuart, many nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends. He will be forever in our hearts.
